Here’s how having an EV charging station at your strata building could benefit you

Share

If you live in a condo or townhouse, you’ve probably noticed that expenses are going up.

Wouldn’t it be nice for the strata to have some extra money coming in so that they wouldn’t have to depend solely on your strata fees?

Not many people know that if your condo or townhouse building has EV charging stations, the strata might be eligible for low carbon fuel credits.

Electricity used to charge electric vehicles is a low carbon fuel, and under the Low Carbon Fuels Act, many stratas will be eligible to receive credits which they can sell.

To learn more, you can check out the FREE webinar “How Stratas Can Get Low Carbon Fuel Credits for EV Charging” on Saturday, March 16th at 9 a.m. hosted by the Vancouver Island Strata Owners Association (VISOA).

You can register for the Zoom webinar here.

VISOA is a non-profit society that has been providing education and support to strata owners throughout BC for over 50 years, and the webinar is made possible with the financial support of the province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation.

“It’s really exciting that many strata corporations will be able to receive low carbon fuel credits to help them pay their operating expenses,” says Wendy Wall, the president of VISOA.

With the price of gas these days, there’s a lot of interest in electric vehicles, and many stratas are installing EV charging systems to prepare for the future needs of their residents.

BC’s Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program offers rebates to help stratas pay for an EV Ready Plan, electrical infrastructure, and charging stations.

In 2023, electric vehicles made up nearly 21% of all new light-duty passenger vehicles sold in BC—the highest percentage for any province or territory in Canada.

By 2035 all new light-duty vehicles sold in BC will be zero emissions, five years
ahead of the original target.
