Portion of Galloping Goose Trail closed in Saanich due to police incident (UPDATED)

Update: The Galloping Goose Trail near the Mckenzine interchange has reopened after a major police investigation in the area.

On Monday, March 11th, at 6:30 p.m., Saanich Police closed a portion of the Galloping Goose Trail from McKenzie Avenue to Grange Road to conduct a nearly 17-hour investigation.

Police searched the area for potential evidence related to a Major Crimes Unit investigation.

With the assistance of K9 units, a preliminary search was conducted, but due to the lack of daylight, the decision was made to secure the area overnight.

At daybreak, with the support of the Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit, a thorough search and canvassing of the area was conducted, which has now concluded.

Moving forward, Saanich Police, who are remaining tight lipped on the incident, said they will provide additional information on this matter as necessary.

The closed section of the Galloping Goose Trail reopened to the public on Tuesday March 12th at 11:45 a.m.

A portion of the Galloping Goose Trail is closed in Saanich Tuesday morning due to a police incident.

According to a media release from Saanich Police, the section of trail between McKenzie Avenue and Grange Road is closed due to an ongoing investigation.

Police are asking cyclists and pedestrians to use alternate routes.

Photos from the scene Tuesday morning show dozens of officers scouring the grassed area in a lined formation.

According to reports, the incident began just after 7 p.m. Monday night. Police were seen directing people away from the trail.

Saanich Police are expected to release more information later.
