One man has been arrested in relation to a stabbing that occurred in downtown Sidney last month.

A man was seriously injured after being stabbed at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 3rd, at the intersection of Beacon Avenue and Fifth Street.

At the time, responding officers located a man suffering from what they described as serious injuries.

According to police, the victim is known to them.

A few weeks later, on Thursday, February 22nd, the Sidney RCMP major crimes section arrested a Victoria man for aggravated assault in connection to the stabbing.

Police confirmed the incident was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.

“I cannot say enough about the excellent police work that our Major Crime Section has put into this investigation thus far. There is still work to be done to ensure all available evidence related to this crime is processed and delivered to the courts but we would like Sidney residents to know this was not a random act and that the man responsible has been arrested,” said Staff Sergeant Wayne Conley of the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP said no further details will be released.
