Driver flees stolen vehicle after crashing into James Bay

A home in James Bay suffered extensive damage after the driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into the property.

In a media release, VicPD said the hit-and-run incident occurred last week, leaving a residence on Southgate Street significantly damaged.

On the morning of Monday, March 25th, at approximately 5:30 a.m., VicPD responded to a distress call from a resident in the 900-block of Southgate Street.

The resident reported that their house had been struck by a vehicle, and the driver had fled the scene on foot.

Despite a search of the area, including assistance from the Integrated Canine Services unit, the suspect managed to evade capture.

Upon further inquiry, investigators discovered that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen earlier that same morning.

“Officers from the Forensic Identification Services unit attended to process and document the scene,” said VicPD in a statement.

Investigators are urging the driver of the vehicle, any witnesses who saw the incident, anyone in the area around the time of the incident who has dashcam footage or doorbell camera footage, or nearby businesses with CCTV footage to contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
