BC government hit with ‘sophisticated’ cybersecurity attack

Share

Just days after London Drugs reopened following a week of closures due to a cybersecurity attack, the BC government disclosed that it is also facing similar issues.

In a statement released late Wednesday, Premier David Eby said that the province had identified “sophisticated cybersecurity incidents” involving government networks.

The provincial government said it is working with the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and other agencies to assess the incidents.

“There is no evidence at this time that sensitive information has been compromised. However, the investigation is ongoing and we have more work to do to determine what information may have been accessed,” said Eby.

The investigation remains ongoing and Eby says more work needs to be done to determine what information could have been accessed.

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner has been informed of the incidents.

Eby said the government will be as transparent as possible without compromising the investigation and will provide updates as they become available.

On April 28th, London Drugs discovered the company fell victim to a cybersecurity breach.

Because of this incident, they made the decision to close all Western Canada locations until they could determine their cybersecurity was once again secure.

After a full week of closure, all stores reopened as of late Tuesday.
