Victoria’s latest protected bike lane is having its grand opening this weekend, and everyone’s invited to Fort Street to celebrate.
The Fort Street Rollout is taking place Sunday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by the City of Victoria, the event will feature live music, interactive education stations, free bike rentals, and other cool family-friendly activities.
To encourage visitors to check out the entire lane, the Roll Out will give out a “passport” in which visitors can get a stamp at various stations throughout. They can then enter to win one of four brand new bikes and other draw prizes.
Construction on the Fort Street bike lane started last September, and is the second in a series of projects currently in the works.
Wharf Street, Humboldt Street, and Cook Street are all candidates for new lanes—though councillors have expressed some uncertainty towards the latter.
In any case, pedal on down to Fort Street this weekend and see what all the excitement is about!
