Suman Virk, the mother of Reena Virk who was murdered by school bullies in 1997, has died.
Her family told media that the death was a result of a ‘tragic accident’.
On November 14th, 1997, a group of teens viciously beat and drowned her daughter, 14-year-old Reena Virk under the Craigflower bridge, sparking an international movement against bullying in schools.
Last year, the family marked the 20th anniversary of Reena’s death at a public ceremony in order to inspire a renewed commitment to nonviolence.
A memorial service for Suman Virk will be held this weekend. The family have asked for privacy while mourning her death.
