It was a frightening scene downtown Thursday night, after a car drove across all lanes of Douglas, jumped the sidewalk, then crashed into the Distrikt Nightclub entrance and down the entrance stairs at Strathcona Hotel.

The incident happened shortly before 6pm. Douglas street was down to one lane, but was soon reopened.

One witness told us the car was travelling eastbound on Courtney at high speed and crossed all lanes on Douglas before crashing into the club’s entrance.

Police believe the 63-year old man at the wheel of the car suffered from a medical issue. He was transported Royal Jubilee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The damage to the building is fairly significant and City of Victoria structural engineers were on scene making an assessment.

‘Excision’ was scheduled to perform at Distrikt Night club on Thursday night at 9pm. There was concern it may have been cancelled, however the club confirmed the show would still go on, just one hour later. The show was rescheduled to start at 10pm.

Victoria Police say they will provide more details in the morning.
