Police release photo of alleged suspect who torched dozens of parking kiosks in Victoria

VicPD are seeking the public’s help in location a person of interest for causing thousands of dollars in damages to parking machines in downtown Victoria.

In a Facebook post, Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers released a photo of a suspect they say burned torched the screen of pay kiosks on Boxing Day.

Replacement screens were fitted to the damaged terminals later that week.

On Wednesday, December 27th, the city was alerted that around 80 parking terminals across downtown Victoria had been damaged after an alleged vandalism spree.

This means that of the City of Victoria’s 280 downtown parking terminals, 115 have been damaged, allegedly torched—rendering them impossible or extremely difficult to use.

confirmed that although replacement screens have been ordered, there’s no estimated time of arrival.

At the time, Colleen Mycroft, a spokesperson for the city, said that VicPD are currently investigating the matter and it’s too soon to estimate the amount of lost revenue from the downed machines.

In the meantime, the city urges visitors to pay for parking using the app, however tickets at those specific lots won’t be issued.

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers released still images of CCTV footage that shows a person of interest in the vandalism spree.
