Over 100 parking terminals damaged by vandals in downtown Victoria

If you plan on parking downtown Victoria, make sure you check the parking terminals first!

It’s no secret that finding parking downtown during the holiday season can be a bit of a pain, but the process became even more complicated for those trying to pay on Wednesday, December 27th.

The city was alerted that around 80 parking terminals across downtown Victoria had been damaged after an alleged vandalism spree.

As of today, that number has since climbed to 115.

This means that of the City of Victoria’s 280 downtown parking terminals, 115 have been damaged, allegedly torched—rendering them impossible or extremely difficult to use.

Colleen Mycroft, a spokesperson for the city, confirmed that although replacement screens have been ordered, there’s no estimated time of arrival.

Mycroft also said that VicPD are currently investigating the matter and it’s too soon to estimate the amount of lost revenue from the downed machines.

In the meantime, the city urges visitors to pay for parking using the app, however tickets at those specific lots won’t be issued.

VicPD confirmed to Victoria Buzz they were investigating the vandalism but could not provide further details.
