For lovers of all things gardening, this is for you!

Victoria Seedy Sunday, a popular and vibrant celebration of seedy security and sustainability, will be returning after a four year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their grand return will take place on Sunday, February 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Quadra Village Community Centre and Neighbourhood Gym.

Since its inauguration in 1994, it has served the community as a seed exchange, a place to buy locally-grown and climate-adapted seeds, and a venue for formal and informal learning about gardening, community food resilience, and climate adapted food growing.

“Seedy Sunday is not just an event; it’s a movement towards a more sustainable and resilient future,” a media release reads.

“By promoting seed security and encouraging sustainable gardening practices, the event aims to inspire positive change within our communities.”

Guests will be presented with over 40 featured vendors, workshops, and activities for kids. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own saved seeds to exchange with their fellow gardeners!

Whether you’re an expert gardener or brand new to the dirt beds, there will be something for everyone to learn and enjoy.

Victoria Seedy Sunday’s main mission is to combat food inflation by making it more accessible for people wanting to grow their own food.

“Since 2001, when I started organizing the seed exchange at Victoria Seedy Saturday, I’ve noticed that every year more and more people are bringing in vegetable seeds to trade, as opposed to the ornamental plants that we used to see,” says Gillian Rowen, long time volunteer.

Additionally, people can drop off their seeds prior to the event, to be repackaged by volunteers, at the Compost Education Centre. They’re open from Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Entry to Victoria Seedy Sunday is by donation!
