Oak Bay Police investigating string of break and enters to businesses and homes

Share

Police in Oak Bay are investigating four separate break ins which all occurred within five days of one another.

They were all slightly different in scope, one being a business while three were people’s homes and on one occasion, nothing was stolen, there was just damage done to personal property inside.

Oak Bay Police shared the following four break ins that occurred between Monday, August 14th and Friday, August 18th in their weekly media release:

August 14th at 9:55 a.m.

Oak Bay Police received a report of a break and entry in the 800-block of Victoria Avenue.

The resident reported finding a window open and had several plants knocked over throughout the house.

In this break in, nothing was reported stolen or damaged, aside from the plants.

Police say this instance is being investigated.

August 16th at 1:10 a.m.

In the early morning hours of last Wednesday, Oak Bay Police received a report of a break and enter at the Victoria Golf Club located at 1110 Beach Drive.

In this break in, CCTV cameras were able to catch the suspect on camera.

The suspect can be seen leaving the scene on a red bicycle with a garbage bag they filled with approximately $200 in beer, food, candy bars and ice cream.

According to police, their suspect is a Caucasian male, aged approximately 25 to 30-years-old, with short brown hair, wearing a red shirt and black pants.

Police say this file is still under investigation.

August 16th at 6:55 a.m.

Just five hours after the break in at Victoria Golf Club, police received a call of another break in, this one being very close in proximity to the August 14th break and enter.

Police say in the 800-block of Victoria Avenue, a resident found their gate unlocked and some of their property strewn about on the ground.

According to police, their suspect pried open a window in order to gain access to the home and then proceeded to steal around $1,750 in audio equipment.

Among the items that were taken were two Apple iPads with charging cables, a silver hand trolly, two large speaker towers and an electronic mixing board.

The iPads were recovered a short distance away along a path that was just west of the building.

This file is still under investigation, according to Oak Bay Police.

August 18th at 10 a.m.

The last break in of the week was reported to Oak Bay Police early on Friday morning in the 2000-block of Crescent Road.

The resident reported a number of tools being stolen. Police speculate that the suspect managed to gain access to the property by prying open a window.

According to police, a neighbouring resident to the property that was broken into saw a man pulling a large green bin filled with tools nearby.

The man was reportedly wearing a grey hooded jacket and black pants and walking a distinct ‘low-rider’ bicycle with white walled tires.

Police say the suspect was last seen walking westbound on Crescent Road toward Foul Bay Road.

This file is still under investigation.
