West Shore RCMP have issued a reminder after catching half dozen people who were prohibited from driving last month.

The latest statistics reveal that, in October alone, six prohibited drivers were apprehended and charged by officers. This brings the total count to a staggering 75 prohibited drivers caught and charged by West Shore RCMP since the beginning of the year.

Prohibited drivers are individuals who have been legally banned from operating a motor vehicle due to a range of reasons, such as a poor driving record, drug and alcohol-related offenses, or other violations.

The repercussions for individuals caught driving while prohibited under the Motor Vehicle Act are severe and when caught, these drivers can expect the following consequences:

  • You may be arrested
  • Your vehicle towed and impounded anywhere from 7-60 days, regardless of if the vehicle is registered to you or not
  • You may also face a fine between $500 – $2000
  • You may be sentenced by the courts and face up to 6 months in jail

For prohibited drivers, regaining their driving privileges is a complex and challenging process.

In most cases, it will necessitate taking the Responsible Driving Program, which aims to educate and rehabilitate individuals with a history of traffic violations, ensuring that they can safely return to the road.
