A recent wave of vandalism has rocked several neighbourhoods in Saanich, causing significant damage to vehicles and leaving residents concerned.

Over a two-week period between December 29th, 2023, and January 5th, a total of 16 vehicles fell victim to deliberate acts of vandalism in various areas, including Harriet Road, Burnside Road West, Dupplin Road, Culduthel Avenue, and Whittier Avenue.

The incidents occurred during the nighttime hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to police in a media release Tuesday.

The damage inflicted upon these vehicles has been estimated to reach tens of thousands of dollars, leaving owners facing substantial repair costs.

Investigations carried out by police have uncovered multiple criminal offenses, primarily categorized as mischief over and under $5,000.

Saanich Police are urging residents in the area with CCTV or surveillance footage to come forward with any information that might aid in identifying the culprit behind these malicious acts.

Despite the widespread nature of the vandalism, police do not believe any vehicles or owners were specifically targeted.

“We realize the impact this has to Saanich residents, including the costs and stress
involved. We have officers actively investigating these cases and are receiving
assistance from the Forensic Identification Section,” stated Saanich Police
spokesperson Sgt. Damian Kowalewich.

Police are looking for a suspect who is described as a Caucasian man believed to be in his 30’s, with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Saanich Police at (250) 475-4321.
