Snowy conditions lead to more closures and cancellations of services in Greater Victoria

Share

As the snow continues to fall across Greater Victoria on Thursday, more services, schools and businesses have elected to shut down due to the wintery conditions.

Camosun College will shutter their campus at 12 p.m. due to deteriorating weather and road conditions—because of this, classes and services will be cancelled for the remainder of the day.

UVic’s campus updated their status at noon and stated they close at 1 p.m. this afternoon. They are reminding students to allow extra time, wear appropriate clothing and footwear and be prepared for snowy and icy conditions.

If you’re expecting a package, you may be in luck! Canada Post has downgraded their Vancouver Island service alert to ‘yellow’, which means that they will make every effort to deliver today, but there may be delays and they may not reach some addresses because of ongoing icy conditions.

They continue encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers.

Make sure you keep your recycling inside for one more day though!

CRD has announced that curbside recycling collection is cancelled for all scheduled routes this Thursday.

The blue box collection is cancelled today due to unsafe weather and road conditions in the region, and residents are advised to hold their recycling until their next collection day.

If you’re a public transit commuter, BC Transit has been providing continuous updates on which services and routes are either altered or suspended, and we’ve provided a full list here which we will keep up to date.
