Two people have been arrested for identity theft, fraud and stolen property in the West Shore over the holidays.

On Sunday December 31st, West Shore RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle parked at Elements Casino in View Royal.

The call, prompted by suspicions of numerous stolen tools within the vehicle, led to the apprehension of two individuals involved in an extensive identity theft and fraud operation.

Upon arrival at the scene, West Shore RCMP say they encountered a man and a woman inside a white F150.

The duo provided false identification to the officers, resulting in their immediate arrest on charges including identity fraud, obstruction of police, possession of stolen property.

The man was also arrested for allegedly being in possession of forged documents.

Subsequent to their arrest, police searched the vehicle and seized several tools that had been fraudulently obtained by using stolen credit cards. Additionally, they confiscated high-value electronics such as VR goggles, doorbell cameras, and more.

“Police also recovered a combination of several stolen cheque books, stolen identification cards, and stolen personal financial statements from over two dozen victims. We have already started contacting the victims in relation to this investigation, many of whom had previously reported their wallets as stolen,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The investigation, stemming from this arrest, has shed light on a widespread identity theft network affecting numerous individuals. The suspects, a 48-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, are currently in police custody and are scheduled to appear before the courts imminently.
