There’s an excitement in the air throughout the Victoria football community as the Canadian Football League (CFL) is set to make an announcement with the City of Victoria.
There are rumors circulating online that suggest the BC Lions will announce a game to be played in Victoria.
While unconfirmed, it is expected the game will take place at Royal Athletic Park in 2024.
Anticipation had been building since the team revealed they would be playing a regular-season match in the picturesque capital city, departing from their traditional home at BC Place.
The City of Victoria and the Lions have scheduled a press conference for 11:30 a.m. this morning at the Victoria Conference Centre.
Among the notable attendees will be CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie, Amar Doman, the Lions team owner who hails from Victoria, Lions head coach and co-GM Rick Campbell, Lions president Duane Vienneau, Lions kicker Sean Whyte, Victoria’s mayor Marianne Alto, and Destination Greater Victoria CEO Paul Nursey.
The BC Lions released a statement Monday confirming a ‘major announcement’ would be happening on Wednesday at the Crystal Garden.
