5 things to do in and around Victoria this Friday, December 22nd

Just a little while longer until the weekend, Victoria!

This Friday we’ve listed a wide variety of atmospheric and high-energy events for all of your dancing and socializing needs.

If you’re looking for something more relaxed, take your family or date out to Butchart Gardens to look at their Christmas lights.

OK, DOPE Holiday Special

OK, DOPE is proud to present Entertainment Village for a double feature starring some of the best local talent this Friday at The Mint!

Come down for the guaranteed laughs as you watch Victoria’s premier improv troupe with some of Victoria’s best comedians perform.

Featured performers in the early show at 7 p.m. will include Darren Millar, Elyott Ryan, Dylan Williams, and Patrica Ellen.

The late show at 10 p.m. will include Emily Woods, Henok Meresa, Max Bank Jaffe, and Juyla Van Der Sloot!

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.

Sounds of Cuba at Hermann’s Upstairs

If you’re up for an exceptional party, Hermann’s Upstairs may have what you need!

They’re excited to present Orchestra Obatalá, composed of 8 extremely talented Cuban musicians who live in Victoria and the Gulf Islands.

As described, your feet won’t be able to resist joining the dance floor while the ensemble plays the most famous latin hits—including danzon, son, to salsa, and bachatá to bolero.

Put on your best dance shoes!

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online or at the door.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation: Festival of Trees

If you haven’t been to the Bay Centre during the holidays yet, it’s not too late!

The entire building has been decked out with over 70 beautifully decorated trees for their annual Festival of Trees with the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation!

They’re all lined up and beautifully decorated for the community to vote on and enjoy throughout the holiday season until January 3rd.

While you wander the Festival of Trees, don’t forget to vote for your favourites and leave a donation if you can.

Any donations that you’re able to make will be going towards a child in need!

  • When: Kicked off on November 16th and will be on display until January 3rd during store shopping centre hours

Christmas at Butchart Gardens

Magic is in the air once again at the Butchart Gardens!

Every year, as the days get shorter, the gardens opt to be a light in the darkness offering everyone thoughtful and jaw-droppingly beautiful Christmas lights displays.

The Christmas spirit is alive in the garden’s piazza with local carolling groups and brass bands who are brought in to play holiday music, the Coffee Shop serving up hot chocolate and the gift shop is open for anyone who needs to do some last minute, stealthy gift shopping.

The lights at Butchart Gardens will only be up until January 6th. Attendees have to book their time slot online, especially if they plan on bringing pets, as those time slots fill up fast!

Weekends at Wicket Hall

High-energy, flashing lights, great times with friends, and time to let loose!

Wicket Weekends offers an array of DJs throughout the night to keep you on the dance floor for as long as possible.

Plus, if you get there before 10 p.m., you don’t have to pay cover!
