There’s an array of Christmas events being held at Christ Church Cathedral this month

Nothing like beautiful gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and phenomenal acoustics for carolers to get you in the holiday spirit.

Throughout the month of December, in celebration of Advent and Christmas, the Christ Church Cathedral will be welcoming the public in to enjoy a wide array of events centred around the season.

It all began with St. Cecilia’s day on November 25th and will continue through to January 6th—so, you’ll have plenty of time to catch a show you’re excited about.

“Christmas is a time for all people to come together, for relationships to be strengthened, for new bonds to be made, and for joy to be shared,” said the Reverend Canon Jeannine Friesen, the cathedral’s Priest in Charge.

“It is my hope that people up and down this island will find joy in our Christmas programming, and that Christ Church Cathedral will be a gathering place for your festive celebrations.”

Included in these events is the ever-popular “Messiah from Scratch!” concert on December 9th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Here, you can immerse yourself in a singalong fundraiser with Donald Hunt, the Emily Carr String Quartet!

General admission tickets are $25 and student tickets are $10—both of which can be purchased via Eventbrite

On Sunday, December 17th from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., they’re offering a “Lessons and Carols for Christmas” event, which has become a seasonal staple!

Every year the cathedral is packed full of people ready to sing traditional carols led by the cathedral’s choir and organ.

This year, the service includes a new carol by BC composer Tobin Stokes and, as always, is free for the public to attend.

Friday, December 22nd will bring the community their “Community Carols in the Chapel” where attendees are invited to come into the church for fun carol singalongs and mulled wine.

It will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to attend!

There are plenty more opportunities to breathe in the beauty of the cathedral during the Christmas season, including their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.
