Don’t put those shovels away just yet, Victoria.

According to another weather alert issued by Environment Canada this Thursday morning, Victoria could see upwards of an additional 10 cm of snow fall today.

Snow has been falling throughout the day today and is expected to get heavy at times delivering at least 5 cm to some areas while other parts of the city could see more.

The weather agency is also stating that whole there is a northeast wind at 20 km/h gusting to 40, the temperature will remain steady near zero.

The snow is expected to transition to freezing rain around midnight. Temperature will rise through the night and will be at plus 2°C by the morning.

The cold-front will then dissolve, switching back to warmer weather through the weekend.

Snowfall warnings are also in effect for the Malahat highway, East Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island—as well as a wind warning for northern Vancouver Island.

During yesterday’s weather system, BC Hydro said the snowstorm had downed lines to about 6,000 customers on Vancouver Island in the afternoon.

BC Transit has also altered some of their bus routes so make sure to check that before heading out, and we have compiled a list of services around Victoria that have elected to close for the afternoon.

Stay warm and safe!
