Two Parksville residents were apprehended by police for possession of a handgun, stolen property, and a significant quantity of drugs last week.

On February 5th at 1:00 p.m., Stephen Michael McKnight, 30, and Dakota Darian Rayner, 22, were taken into custody by Oceanside RCMP.

An observer called in the “suspicious” male and female parked in a vehicle in the underground parkade at Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach.

The pair, who are known to police, had outstanding arrest warrants and were breaching a no-contact order between them.

Police obtained a warrant to search inside the vehicle where they found a significant amount of drugs, a handgun, and stolen property. The vehicle was seized and the pair were taken into custody without incident.

The courts released Rayner on further conditions, while McKnight will be held in custody until March 2nd when they will both appear in court.

“The keen observations of our complainant ensured officers were able to coordinate a response that allowed for an effective and safe apprehension of this prolific offender, without further endangering the public,” stated Sgt. Stephen Rose of the Oceanside RCMP.

“The presence of illicit substances and a restricted firearm raise the risk for all involved.”
