A recent incident in Maple Bay has prompted a concerned mother to issue a warning to drivers in the area.

On February 26th, a young woman, who was the sole occupant of her vehicle, had a harrowing experience when two men attempted to open her car doors.

The incident occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on Maple Bay Road.

According to a Facebook post by Julie Grimsson, the mother of the young woman, the driver noticed two men walking along the roadside.

Suddenly, one of the men darted in front of her car, forcing her to make an abrupt stop, while the other individual approached the passenger side, where the men attempted to forcibly open the car doors.

Grimsson recounted that they were shouting and using profanity. Fearing for her safety, the young woman, who was on her way to the gym, stepped on the gas and drove off.

“They were yelling and swearing at her through the window and she thought they looked like they might try to smash her car window so she floored it and drove off,” wrote Grimsson in her post.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP confirmed to Victoria Buzz that they are aware of the incident and are actively investigating.

“Investigators have undertaken steps to identify those individuals and what prompted their actions/behaviours,” said RCMP Cpl. Alex Berube, media relations officer for Island District.
