Hundreds gathered at Victoria City Hall on Monday, as the pride flag was raised then lowered to half-mast, to show support in the wake of the attack in Orlando, which claimed the lives of 49 people and injured 53 more.

The crowd took part in a moment of silence to remember the victims of the Orlando massacre and Mayor Lisa Helps delivered a speech:

“This could have been you, it could have been me, it could have been any of us gay, lesbian, queer, bi, trans, tw0-spirited plus folks who go to such bars to find community, or even just to dance freely with the people we love,” said Mayor Lisa Helps to the crowd.

“We’re here to stand together to affirm that all love is okay that all love is welcome in the City of Victoria.”
