Vandals destroy two police cars near former Vancouver Island University building

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are seeking public assistance in their search for the vandal(s) that destroyed two police cruisers were vandalized over Thanksgiving weekend.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th, two police officers parked their vehicles behind the old Vancouver Island University building on Cowichan Way, in order to conduct a foot patrol around the Black Bridge.

When they returned to their cruisers, both rear windows had been smashed. Because of the damage, the vehicles are currently out of commission and in need of repairs.

Police say non-front line vehicles will be used to attend calls for service while the two cruisers are being repaired.

“This damage disappoints us because the actions directly impair our ability to respond to the needs of the public. We will continue to strive to provide quality service,” said Inspector Chris Bear in a statement.
