Investigators with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) have released surveillance footage of individuals they wish to identify in connection with a double homicide.

The crime took place in Duncan on December 24th, when a man and a woman were seriously assaulted in the area by Trunk Road and Canada Avenue.

Both of the victims were transported to hospital, where they died of their injuries.

The victims were identified as Fran Shurie and Nellie Williams. The couple had four children together.

According to the organizer of a GoFundMe fundraiser, Susie Cusson, Williams was attacked “while trying to protect her boyfriend”. Cusson also states that Williams was placed on life support after suffering from a major stroke caused by the attack.

In a press release made on January 3rd, officers with the BC RCMP announced that other people may have interacted with the two suspects.

“We have reason to believe there may have been at least one other altercation on Christmas Eve in the area of Trunk Road and Duncan Street involving the two persons of interest and an unknown person or people,” stated Sgt. Trevor Busch in the release.

“We strongly urge those people to come forward immediately as they may have vital information to our ongoing investigation.”

Surveillance footage shows the two people of interest walking calmly along a busy Duncan road.

The first individual is described as possibly a Caucasian male, seen wearing a black or dark coloured hoodie with a logo on the left chest and a horizontal pattern on the right arm, a pair of dark coloured pants with a horizontal pattern on the legs, and a pair of dark coloured or black shoes.

The second person is described as a male, wearing a black or dark coloured hoodie, a pair of dark pants with a thick, white, vertical stripe on the leg, and a pair of dark shoes.

RCMP officers are interested in speaking with anyone who were in the area of Trunk Road and Duncan Street or Canada Avenue between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. on the night of December 24, 2019, including those who may have dashcam footage or other video surveillance.
