A number of changes are coming to a section of Shelbourne Street which will be closed for up to three weeks while work commences.
The City of Victoria has temporarily closed a three-block section of the Shelbourne Street corridor, between Coronation Street and Bay Street as of June 10.
The area will see the following changes:
- Crosswalks: A new pedestrian crosswalk across Denman Street and an upgrade to the existing crosswalk at Pembroke Street. Both crosswalks will have new pedestrian-controlled push buttons, yellow flashing lights, and audible accessibility features for the crossing and push buttons.
- Street and Sidewalks: Shelbourne Street from Coronation Street to Bay Street will be fully repaved, including sidewalk repairs.
- Sanitary Sewer: The replacement of 75 metres of old clay sanitary sewer main with modern PVC pipe, as well as installing new service connections for homes.
- Storm Drain: The replacement of 40 metres of old clay storm main with modern PVC pipe, as well as installing new service connections for homes and catch basins.
The aforementioned section of the street will be closed to traffic for three weeks after which it will reopen while the remainder of construction work continues.
BC Transit is detouring around Shelbourne, using Fern, Fort and Richmond Streets.
