Police say they were called to the 200-block of Skinner Street just before 3 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

The vehicle had struck a hydro pole and was reported to be on fire, with the sole occupant suffering life-threatening injuries.

Nearby residents had rushed to help the driver and were providing emergency first aid before officers arrived and took over.

Paramedics transported the driver to hospital but they later succumbed to their injuries.

The incident led to a road closure that lasted for several hours until just after 8 a.m., as investigators gathered evidence.
