More than half of the residents on Snuneymuxw First Nation reserves have received COVID-19 vaccinations as of Thursday afternoon.

Chief Mike Wyse delivered the update on inoculations on the Snuneymuxw First Nation Facebook page, saying 53 per cent of residents have received a shot.

“Our goal is to achieve a minimum of 70 per cent vaccination rate within our Nation,” said Wyse.

“We want to build a strong community immunity within our Nation so that we can achieve greater health and wellness.”

Snuneymuxw elders and on-reserve residents were prioritized and encouraged to visit the vaccination clinic at the rec centre at 1145 Totem Road on January 6th and January 7th.

Members living off-reserve were asked to call Marine White at (250) 668-5244 to be placed on a waitlist as further supplies become available.

On Wednesday afternoon two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed while two had recovered, leaving a total of 21 active cases in the Nation.
