The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 622 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Thursday March 18th, for a total of 90,049 cases since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
Vancouver Coastal Health: 184
Fraser Health: 317
Island Health: 35
Interior Health: 30
Northern Health: 54
The number of active cases in BC increased from 4,851 to 4,941.
There are now a total of 286 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 85 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
Eight new people have died from COVID-related causes making the provincial death toll at 1,419.
9,620 people are under active public health monitoring after exposure to COVID-19.
A total of 83,613 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.
Outbreaks
There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks.
The outbreak at Chartwell Hampton House is now over.

Island Health
Island Health reported 30 new cases of COVID-19 today.
The number of active cases on the island increased by 4 cases to 197 remaining active cases.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island: Active cases: 72 (4)│ Total Cases: 751 (+11)
- Central Vancouver Island: Active cases: 97 (+5)│ Total Cases: 1,596 (+15)
- North Vancouver Island: Active cases: 28 (-5)│ Total Cases: 475 (+4)
9 people remain in hospital with 3 in ICU.
There were no new deaths in the Island Health region.
28 people have died since the pandemic began.
Vaccinations and Variants
To date, 465,584 (+21,174) doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 87,120 (+27) of which are second doses.
There have been 136 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province.
Of the total number of 1,132 confirmed variant cases, 143 cases are active and the remaining people have recovered.
Of the total, 1,040 cases were of the UK variant, 41 cases were of the South Africa variant, and 51 cases of the Brazil variant.
