It’s rainy season and when roads are wet, drivers are encouraged to take it extra slow and use caution behind the wheel.
It’s a reminder from Oak Bay Police after a 23-year-old man experienced firsthand what can happen if you accelerate quickly while making a left-hand turn.
On February 4th at around 1 p.m., police say the driver lost control of his silver Mazda at Lansdowne Road and Cadboro Bay Road and jumped the curb.
No injuries were reported, but the car was left damaged and undrivable, according to police. It was then towed, with the driver issued a violation ticket for Improper Turn at Intersection under the Motor Vehicle Act.
SUV hits E-Bike rider:
The day prior, on February 3rd at around 10 a.m., Oak Bay Police say a 34-year-old man riding his E-Bike eastbound on Cadboro Bay Road collided with a white Audi SUV travelling in the same direction.
A 71-year-old man was behind the wheel of the SUV, police say, noting he made a legal right turn into a business parking lot near Bee Street when the collision happened.
“The SUV sustained minor damage to the front right passenger side of the bumper,” police added. “The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was treated at the scene for lower leg abrasions.”
Insurance expired? Don’t drive:
Over the last week, between January 31st and February 6th, Oak Bay Police say several local drivers were caught driving without valid insurance.
This past Sunday, a 46-year-old Tesla driver was pulled over after an officer noticed the insurance decal on their licence plate expired more than two months ago.
The driver was issued a violation ticket under Motor Vehicle Act and slapped with a $598 fine.
“The driver was able to arrange insurance roadside, and a tow truck was not required,” police said.
