12 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend—October 14th and 15th

Happy weekend shenanigans, Victoria!

It’s already the middle of October—anyone else still need to plan their Halloween costume?

To celebrate the nearing All Hallows Eve, this weekend presents a mix of season related fun such as a Halloween market, an organized Zombie Walk, a screening of Carrie, and much more!

If you’re hoping to take a break from the haunting October activities, that’s fine too! We’ve also featured events like Victoria’s Oktoberfest, a virtual art tour, a Victoria Royals game, and more.

Saanichton Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch

If you haven’t already, get yourself out to the Saanichton Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch for some needed family time and autumn fun!

This year, the corn maze has been expanded to an impressive six acres—their biggest one yet.

Grab your flannels and boots and head to the patch, which is open from Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each week, from now until October 31st—including holiday Mondays.

Festival of Fear at Galey Farms

In the mood to be absolutely petrified?

Galey Farms’ Festival of Fear has begun and includes the Corn Maze of Horror, Crazy Train, and Haunted House—be prepared to encounter many haunting sights and jump scares.

Bring a buddy or two because it’s going to get freaky!

ArtSea Studio Tour

As one of Vancouver Island’s longest running self-guided tours, the Community Arts Council is pleased to continue offering Greater Victoria residents a glimpse at the exciting world of art with their ArtSea Studio Tour!

From October 14th to 15th, you can explore all of the participating locations with over 30 artists, and discover the hidden gems and talent in your area as well as enjoy artist demonstrations.

It’s free and will take you all across Sidney, North Saanich, and Central Saanich!

Boardwalk Burgers Victoria Grand Opening 

Burger lovers, rejoice!

Boardwalk Burgers is all set to make a splash in the Victoria dining scene, and they’re inviting everyone to ride the wave during their official grand opening event this weekend.

It kicked off on Friday, October 13th and it will continue through Saturday, October 14th!

The highlight of the celebration is a fantastic offer: buy one burger and get a second free! It’s a deal that’s hard to resist, and it’s sure to draw crowds eager to savour the delicious flavours this place has to offer.

Victoria Zombie Walk 2023

Beware the walking dead!

The zombie apocalypse is expected to engulf Victoria yet again on Saturday, October 14th, where the city’s goriest creatures will be free to wander the streets looking for their next meal.

The walk will begin in Centennial Square at 3 p.m. and all humans are invited to catch the deadly virus and show off their most horrifying blood-soaked ensembles.

General rules include:

  • No fireworks/firecrackers
  • No fake guns/crossbows
  • Do not smear blood on store windows along the route of the walk
  • Don’t touch/smear blood on walk observers
  • Don’t impede traffic on the roads
  • Have fun but be respectful
  • Don’t bite anyone
  • Where: Centennial Square
  • When: Saturday, October 14th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Zombies can start gathering at 2 p.m.!)

Uptown Oktoberfest

Prepare for an unforgettable day of fun, food, and frolic as the lively and vibrant Oktoberfest returns to Uptown this weekend!

This family-friendly event promises a whole lot of German flair, including traditional food, foot-stomping music, and, of course, barrels of beer.

Bring your friends, don your lederhosen or dirndl, and head to Uptown Shopping Centre for an epic celebration of German culture and hospitality.

There will be plenty of fun for the little ones as well, including bouncy castles, face painting, craft stations and so much more!

Stein and Dine: Oktoberfest at Victoria Public Market

Get your lederhosen and dirndl ready and head over to the Victoria Public Market on Saturday, October 14th for a night of craft beer and delicious, classic German fare.

The seventh annual Stein and Dine Oktoberfest, hosted by Roast Meat & Sandwich Shop, will feature bites like mouth watering soft pretzels, Bavarian sausages, and German Potato Salad paired with a selection of BC craft beer, cider, and wine to match.

There will also be craft cocktails served up by Ryan Simpson!

In addition to the food and drinks, there’ll be a plethora of live entertainment, games, an accordion player, Oktoberfest dancers, giant Roast jenga, and music by PROST!

WHL Victoria Royals vs. Swift Current Broncos

Looking for that hockey fix?

The Victoria Royals are back home for the weekend! So, if you missed their Friday, October 13th game, no worries!

They’re ready and waiting to take on the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, October 14th and you’re invited.

Not to mention the special birthday celebration for Marty the mascot, which means $5 beer up until puck drop—now that’s a good deal!

Ticket prices vary depending on seat selection but they generally start around $16.

Halloween Market

The Halloween Market is back for another year of seasonal and scarifying fun!

Entry is $5—kids 12 and under get in for free.

Retromania at Vic Theatre

In the mood for nostalgia?

As a part of their Retromania: 70s Spooktober series, the Vic Theatre will be showcasing Carrie—the story about an introverted high school student, Carrie White, who discovers her telekinetic powers after enduring a humiliating incident at her senior prom.

Pacific Opera Victoria: Die Walküre

You’re in for an epic evening at the Royal Theatre with this brilliant production of Die Walküre.

This is the second installment in Richard Wagner’s mesmerizing opera tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen, and contains a dramatic tale of gods, heroes, and destiny.

As described, this vivid orchestration takes you deep into the world of Norse mythology, where cosmic fate devours illicit lovers and Valkyries soar on sweeping melodies.

The music is sung in German with English surtitles and this performance is part of the Pacific Opera Victoria’s 2023/34 Season of Full Flavoured Opera.
