Victoria Police searching for suspect who tried to kick down local business door (VIDEO)

(Screencap of surveillance footage uploaded by Bruce Lroy/YouTube)

VicPD are searching for a suspect who tried to break into a business in the 1400 block of Haultain Street last week.

In a video shared by Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers, the suspect can be seen hanging out outside the business for a while and even noticing a surveillance camera observing them, before deciding to try and kick down the front door.

See also:

Upon failing to do so, they promptly run away from the scene.

“When a shop window has a sign in it, saying it is closed, it really means that it is not open for customers. It doesn’t mean kick the door in and try to gain entry,” writes Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers.

“You can turn yourself in and we are certain they will keep the police station open for you, so no further damage will occur.”

Anyone who recognizes the suspect can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and referring to VicPD file #19-37261.

Safety improvements to Trans-Canada Hwy in Westshore will begin late September

(Trans Canada highway past Leigh Road/Google Maps)

Work to improve safety along a stretch of Trans-Canada Hwy in Westshore will commence near the end of September, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The project will widen the highway from three lanes to four for two kilometres from Leigh Road to West Shore Parkway.

See also:

The additional lane will continue through the West Shore Parkway intersection, with the northbound merge relocated to the Goldstream Park side of the signal.

This is meant to reduce northbound traffic congestion that is customary at this intersection during rush hour.

A concrete median barrier is also being added to 1.2 kilometres of the highway to separate opposing lanes of traffic and further improve safety.

The project will begin late September and will be conducted by Windley Contracting of Nanaimo who has been awarded a $9.7-million contract.

The cost of these safety improvements is being shared by the federal and provincial governments, with the Government of Canada providing $4.75 million while the province of BC is providing the remaining $4.95 million.

Completion is expected in 2021, and once the construction schedule is finalized, the ministry will advise motorists how this work might affect traffic flow.

Saanich woman who suffered memory loss from workplace injury will remarry her husband next year

(Laura Faganello/Facebook)

Finding love can be a daunting challenge to begin with, but for one Saanich couple the real struggle began when one of them forgot they had found it in the first place.

In 2017, Saanich resident Laura Faganello suffered a devastating brain injury after a pole fell on her head while setting up for a work event.

See also: Victoria couple keeps things steamy in the snow with homemade Valentine’s Day igloo

The incident left her with a crippling memory loss, forcing her to have to relearn how to read, write, and speak coherently, learn to live with the short and long term memory loss, and cope with constant pain.

One of the biggest impacts of the injury, however, was the fact that it made her forget marrying her husband 9 months prior to the accident.

“My next clear memory is of waking up thinking I was 17 years old, and not knowing who Brayden was,” Faganello shares in a Facebook post.

“My memory of meeting, falling in love with, and marrying Brayden was gone.”

The unnerving situation led to a period of anger and depression for Faganello, but eventually she came to terms with the fact that her memory had not yet come back.

“It’s really hard to feel completely devoted to a marriage when you feel like you just woke up to it one day,” she writes.

“Even though I didn’t really know who Brayden was, I saw how kind and patient he was with me… I wanted to try to make it work. I took off my rings, and I told him I wanted to date him. So, we started dating again.”

Fast forward to August 19th 2019, which is when Brayden proposed to Laura for the second time, and she said yes for the second time.

The couple will be getting married again next year on their fourth wedding anniversary.

“Brayden became my best friend, and then my crush, and then my love. I haven’t miraculously gotten my memory and all my old feelings for him back, but I have new feelings and new memories.”

“I’ve learned that love is a choice, and I am choosing to love Brayden.”

Jay Wallace Images

Not gone long and certainly not forgotten, fan-favourite Griffen Outhouse has been on the minds of many Royals fans since his departure at the end of the season – and it appears the former Victoria netminder is making moves towards his future!

It was recently announced that Outhouse – who aged out of the junior hockey league this past 2018-19 season – has been invited to the Winnipeg Jets Rookie Camp, which is happening from September 6th-9th in Belleville, Ontario.

The popular Victoria alumnus played four seasons with the Royals, with a total of 196 games under his belt – in the 2018-19 season, his record consisted of a 2.81 goals against average, and a save percentage of .913%.

And he’s in good company! Former Victoria Royals defenceman Scott Walford has also been asked to the Jets Rookie Camp, though recently traded to the Saskatoon Blades before the start of the current WHL season.

Walford played for the Royals from 2016-2019, ending last season with a record of 9 goals and 2 assists.

Tickets for the Victoria Royals’ 2019-20 season go on sale tomorrow, August 30th, and they will play the season’s home-opener against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, September 27th.

Two people turn themselves in for arson charges in Campbell River house fire

(Campbell River Fire/Twitter)

A man and a woman are facing arson charges after turning themselves in to police.

On August 21st, Campbell River RCMP issued arrest warrants for 42-year-old Eddie Cliffe and 63-year-old Gwen Olney for arson charges related to fire that destroyed one house and damaged others on June 25th.

See also:

The home that went up in flames was located at 2335 Henderson Ave, and after attending the site, officers promptly commenced an arson investigation.

Once the warrant was issued, Olney turned herself in to the Campbell River Courthouse on August 28th and was released on a Recognizance with several conditions. Her first court appearance is scheduled for September 9th.

The next day, Cliffe also turned himself in to the Courthouse and is currently waiting to appear before a judge.

“Any house fire possess a significant danger to the citizens in the surrounding area, not to mention the danger to First Responders that attend the blaze and investigate the blaze after the fact,” said Sgt Dave Johnson in a statement.

“A house fire that is deliberately set is particularly concerning as it is a dangerous situation that is totally preventable.”

Police say that information from witnesses and the public aided them significantly in their efforts to obtain charge approval in this file.

Two Vancouver Island men arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography

RCMP
(File photo)

RCMP have arrested two men in Campbell River for allegedly possessing child pornography.

In late March 2019, the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children were able to detect suspected child pornography on Vancouver Island.

Soon after, the BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit determined that the IP addresses attached to these images were in the Campbell River area, and passed on that information to the corresponding RCMP detachment.

See also:

Through the course of their investigation, Campbell River RCMP obtained a search warrant for a local residence and executed that warrant on May 9th.

Once at the property, they were able to seize several digital devices and upon examination of these devices, obtained enough evidence to charge the residents with possession of child pornography contrary to Section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code.

On August 23rd, officers arrested two men, aged 22 and 49, and brought them to court after which they were released with strict conditions.

“When we are alerted to these types of investigations in our area by our Provincial and National child exploitation unit partners it reminds us that the internet provides the opportunity for these types of crime to occur in any town at any time, even here in Campbell River,” said Sgt Dave Johnson in a statement.

“Holding people accountable for these types of actions requires a determined investigation that takes time and commitment to conduct thoroughly, time and a commitment that we are willing to give.”

The two suspects are next expected to appear in court on September 9th.

Saanich School District support staff issue strike notice

(SD 63 Saanich/Twitter)

The union representing support staff workers at Saanich School District 63 have issued a strike notice in a letter to parents on Thursday.

After bargaining with the school district on six occasions, an overwhelming majority of CUPE 441 members have voted to take job action if necessary and are now in a position to serve 72-hour strike notice to the school district.

See also: 20-year-old UVic student remains in coma after hit-and-run in Saanich

According to union President Dean Coates, workers in School District 63 are demanding comparable wages to their counterparts in Victoria and Sooke, who have received higher wages for decades.

There are nearly 500 K-12 workers in CUPE 441 who fill a range of roles including Education Assistants, Technical Support staff, Library Techs, Youth and Family Counsellors, Clerical, Custodial, Grounds, Maintenance, Transportation, Trades, and District support staff.

 SD63 responds

In response to the strike notice, SD63 Board of Education Vice-Chair Elsie McMurphy stated that while the issue of wage competitiveness remains a concern to the board, it’s important to ensure that students’ education is not interrupted by a labour dispute.

Over the course of negotiations with the union, the Board proposed reallocating funds to provide CUPE441 workers with wage increases in excess of 6% over three years, in compliance with the compensation mandate established by the BC government for public sector bargaining.

“With this proposal, those jobs that are the farthest behind our neighbours in terms of hourly wage would receive a larger additional wage increase than jobs that are less affected,” said McMurphy.

However, Coates says this does not meet the needs of union members, especially given that the school district recently began paying managers and administrators comparable wages.

“We want them to also recognize and value the contribution of support staff in Saanich schools.”

Victoria kids set up Iced Tea booth to raise money for family of deceased friend

When 9-year-old Carter Bonsdorf passed away, it had a devastating impact on his family, friends, and community at large.

Ten days after his 9th birthday, Carter suffered a major medical event which resulted in a cardiac arrest at home after which he was rushed to the hospital.

Despite their best efforts, his doctors were unable to save him, and he passed away on August 24th, surrounded by family members.

News of his passing spread quickly among his friends who were shocked and upset by the news, but decided to put their grief aside and rally together to help out the Bonsdorf family.

Iced Tea fundraiser

“When I told my son about Carter he cried, then without saying anything else he went to the fridge to get lemons,” Lindsay Plumb tells Victoria Buzz.

“I asked what he was doing and he said he wanted to help by raising money. All it took was having another friend over to get the group started.”

Plumb’s son, Ashton, and his friends Kesler, Nyla, and Kai then proceeded to create an iced tea stand in front of Northridge Elementary School, with the intention of donating funds raised to the Bonsdorf family.

The movement quickly snowballed, and now there have been around 15 kids working the stand each day since Monday, August 26th.

Community rallies together

According to Plumb, the kids – who range between grades 2 and 5 – tell Carter’s story to everyone who stops by the stand.

The beverages are by donation, and many generous individuals have been contributing between $5-$20 to the cause.

“The kids have been doing door to door sales too,” says Plumb. “3 or 4 kids at a time take a pitcher and cups, then knock on doors to tell the story. Most people donate and decline the beverage.”

Today, the group will be setting up once again in front of Northridge Elementary between 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

A GoFundMe was also started by a family member to give Carter’s immediate family “some financial peace of mind during this time of recovery and healing.” As of the time of publication, it has raised $19,185 out of the $25,000 goal.

CRD warns against swimming in Prior Lake due to toxic blue-green algae

(Prior Lake/Photo by Marco Antonio Gomez-Jofre - Google)

Victorians hoping to take a dip in Prior Lake this afternoon would do better to pick a different water body.

As of Thursday, the CRD has issued an advisory against swimming in Prior Lake – located at the north end of Thetis Lake Regional Park – due to the presence of toxic blue-green algae.

See also: Beaver Lake closed to swimming after algae bloom detected

When present, the algae usually produces a visible blue-green sheen, which appears as surface scum. However, not all blooms are easy to see and toxins can still be present in the water even if you cannot see them.

If ingested, the algae can cause a range of harmful symptoms, including headaches and abdominal pains. For other animals, like dogs, it could also cause lethal liver damage.

During toxic blue-green algae warnings, the CRD advises against entering the water and keeping pets on leashes.

For three months, 10 UVic students will be joining 10 incarcerated students at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre, through the course facilitated by the university’s Faculty of Humanities and BC Corrections.

“The Myth of Sisyphus.”

“What underlies this course is the transformative power of education, but also different ways of looking at education, in which it is not simply the transmission of knowledge from one party to another, but the co-creation of knowledge by people with different perspectives on and experiences of the world,” says Dr. Yap.

Last year, Dr. Yap ran a successful pilot course with incarcerated students at the jail on Wilkinson Road, using role modelling, social learning, and peer accountability to support positive changes in thinking and behaviour.

Her goal with this course is to make philosophy accessible to the 10 students in custody while bringing the 10 UVic students face-to-face with the principles and practices of restorative justice.

This cookie shop has been selling their classic freshly baked cookies, coffee, and ice cream out of their 1122 Blanshard Street storefront for nearly three years.

See also:

In November 2018, owner Matthew Davis decided to expand the business by adding a kiosk at Uptown. Now, this will have to serve as their primary space until they can find another spot to move into downtown.

“We were unable to come to a new agreement on our lease with the landlord [after] the building was recently purchased and fell into new ownership,” Davis tells Victoria Buzz.

While pricing was not the issue, lease negotiations were cut short by the new owners after Davis requested an extension.

The Cookie Guy’s main modus operandi, however, is through deliveries and fortunately the area they service will remain unchanged even after the downtown storefront shuts down.

“We hope to move into a larger venue at Uptown, but nothing is set in stone… and we should see our hours change in the middle of September, so we could be open earlier and close later,” adds Davis.

“We are hoping to return to the downtown scene in the near future, we just have to find a space that works for us.”

The menu will remain the same, with all of their popular cookies staying on, along with their rotating ice cream menu.

And while customers are sad to see one of their favourite downtown shops shut down, they’ve also been understanding and supportive of the transition.

“We’re receiving a lot of positive support which is great. We’re sad to leave the downtown core and are hoping to get back in there. The biggest thing on our end is that we’re still going to be delivering to the same areas, that’s not going to change at all,” says Davis.

The success of his business thus far, and the support from the local community has also enabled Davis to explore expansion options in Vancouver in the future.

For now, customers in Victoria can still have their freshly baked sweet treats delivered to them, and until the end of September, receive a 20% discount on their orders by using the code ‘Snickerdoodle’!

Camosun college will supply free menstrual products on Lansdowne campus washrooms

(Camosun)

Starting this September, Camosun college will be supplying free menstrual products in women’s and men’s washrooms on their Lansdowne campus.

Organic pads and tampons will be available in the first floor washrooms in the Library and Learning Commons on Lansdowne campus for the 2019/20 academic year.

See also:

“The majority of people who menstruate are women and girls, but we recognize that they aren’t the only people who menstruate,” says librarian Robbyn Lanning, who spearheaded the project with her passion for menstrual equity.

“By having the products in both gendered washrooms, we’re trying to remove stigma related to menstruation and increase awareness in cisgender males.”

The products and the installation of Plexiglass dispensers in both washrooms was facilitated by a $5,000 Camosun Innovation and Creativity Grant.

This pilot project will take place between September 2019 and March 2020 during which Lanning will track the products’ use and survey student response before making recommendations for future steps.

See also: All BC public schools will be required to provide free menstrual products by the end of 2019

“The affordability of menstrual supplies is a pressing issue for many Camosun students,” says CCSS Pride Director, Angela Chou. “We feel confident that free menstrual supplies will not only be used, but will also help to relieve some of the impact of period poverty that students experience.”

Free menstrual products were also made available at various City of Victoria public facilities starting this summer.

Moreover, all public schools in BC will be required to provide free menstrual products in washrooms by the end of 2019.

Oak Bay firefighters free deer stuck in metal fence early Tuesday morning

(Oak Bay Fire/Twitter)

For the second time this week, local authorities have been in the spotlight for a rather wholesome reason.

On Tuesday morning at around 5:25 a.m, Oak Bay firefighters responded to a call about a young deer stuck in a metal fence in the 1900-block of Crescent Road.

“They covered the deer’s head with a blanket so it wasn’t as nervous, and once they freed it, it basically walked off on its own,” Deputy Chief Darren Lee told Victoria Buzz.

See also: Victoria police officer herds geese away from downtown intersection by “quacking” at them (VIDEO)

The fact that the fawn walked away by itself was enough to convince Oak Bay firefighters and Victoria Animal Control – who followed up on the incident afterwards – that the animal was uninjured.

Lee confirmed that responding firefighters had to use a hydraulic rescue tool or ‘Jaws of Life’ to separate the metal bars and free the deer.

“It took about half an hour to get the deer out,” says Lee.

“We were able to help the little guy out and then didn’t have to worry about it being injured so that’s nice.”

Theft from vehicles is up over 100% in some parts of Victoria this year

(File photo)

A comparative crime analysis conducted by the Victoria Police department has found that thefts from vehicles have risen significantly in some parts of Victoria this year.

Overall this type of crime is up by 30% in VicPD’s jurisdiction compared to the same time period in 2018, but certain neighbourhoods have experienced a much more significant increase.

See also:

According to data from the department’s Analysis and Intelligence Section, the neighbourhoods of Rockland, North Jubilee, and Fairfield have experienced increases of 236%, 118% and 115% respectively.

hiMeanwhile some communities like Esquimalt, Downtown, and Harris Green, saw a decrease in thefts from vehicles.

“Our belief is that many of these thefts from vehicles are being committed by a small group of prolific offenders,” Chief Constable Del Manak said.

“We are keeping the public updated on crime trends in their neighbourhoods so that they can work with us to reduce the likelihood of victimization. That’s why we are asking people to remove valuables from their vehicles to reduce the likelihood of these crimes occurring in the first place.”

According to a statement from VicPD, these thefts tend to happen during later hours, making it crucial for vehicle owners to adopt the “9 p.m. ritual” of ensuring all valuables are removed from it after 9 p.m. at night.

Here’s a summary of thefts from vehicles by neighbourhood

UVic research finds that average Canadian drinker consumes 250 calories of alcohol everyday (STUDY)

A new study led by a University of Victoria research student has found that the average drinker consumes a large amount of calories via alcohol everyday.

Adam Sherk, a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Victoria’s Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR) recently published his team’s research in the Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research.

See also:

According to the study, the average Canadian drinker ingests 250 calories through alcohol everyday. That’s 11% of their daily estimated energy requirement.

“That’s like eating an extra bag of chips every day,” explained Sherk in a statement.

“If we look at binge drinking, or having something like four or five drinks on one occasion, it’s actually closer to 550 calories, which is about 25% of the recommended daily caloric intake. That’s the equivalent of a double cheeseburger with all the fixings.”

Sherk and his co-authors conclude their paper with a call for nutritional labelling on all alcohol containers. At the moment, alcoholic beverages are not required to have such labelling, unlike other food and drinks.

“Given that the updated Canada Food Guide specifically highlights the importance of cutting back on sugary drinks, including alcohol, we think nutritional labels would be valuable,” says Sherk.

“Labels could also be used to communicate information about alcohol’s other health risks, including cancer, stroke and heart disease, or details about Canada’s Low Risk Drinking Guidelines.”

New $18.5M overpass will be built at Pat Bay Hwy and Keating Cross Road in Central Saanich

(Province of BC/Flickr)

The intersection of Pat Bay Highway and Keating Cross Road will be receiving a new addition.

On Monday morning, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced funding for a new overpass from Pat Bay Highway (Highway 17) northbound to Keating Cross Road westbound.

See also: The McKenzie Interchange will look a whole lot different after this weekend

This flyover would eliminate the need for drivers to cross the busy highway when turning onto Keating Cross Road.

“These improvements to Highway 17 will greatly alleviate the chronic congestion issues people experience daily on this busy regional transportation route,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, federal Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, on behalf of the Canadian government.

“Creating more vehicle capacity and smoother traffic flow will allow people to spend less time on the road and more time at their destinations, supporting economic activity and a higher quality of life.”

The changes also include a realigned southbound on-ramp to Victoria.

Funding for this will come jointly from the Government of Canada and the District of Central Saanich.

The federal government is pitching in over $16 million while the municipality will be spending $2.5 million on it.

The provincial government’s contribution for the project is pending Treasury Board approval.

Victoria police officer herds geese away from downtown intersection by “quacking” at them (VIDEO)

(Screencap from video by Katie Bernardo/YouTube)

Living on Vancouver Island means frequent encounters with wildlife.

For one Victoria police officer, it also means going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to keeping said wildlife away from harm.

See also:

In a video recorded by Katie Bernardo and sent to Victoria Buzz, a gaggle of geese can be seen standing in the middle of the intersection of Esquimalt and Harbour Road, at risk of being injured by passing vehicles.

That’s when Cst. Chris Gilbert arrives in his VicPD cruiser, sirens blaring, in an effort to herd them over to the sidelines and to safety.

But when the geese were slow to budge, Cst. Gilbert decided to break out his loudspeaker and… quack at them.

“I came across the bridge and traffic was all snarled up because of this flock of geese. I want to encourage them off the road so I chirped my siren which didn’t really do much,” Cst. Gilbert tells Victoria Buzz.

“I initially went with a quack over my loudspeaker and quickly realized that it was the wrong sound but I felt committed to it and well I just rode it out hoping maybe no one would notice that I made a kindergarten error. I’m sure my four children will re-educate me this afternoon,” he joked.

And turns out, the birds seemed just as intimidated by a large vehicle making quacking sounds at them, as they probably would have been if it had honked like a goose.

Luckily, Bernardo was able to capture a video of the whole encounter from the pedestrian overpass by Johnson Street Bridge.

Finding the right place to buy

If you’re in the market for a great bottle of grapes, doing a quick search online for the which locations carry the best selection is always a good idea – many liquor stores specialize in different forms of liquor and it’s no different when it comes to the world of wine. If you can find a store that boasts about its wine selection and education, that’s always best!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions..

.. that’s what the staff is there for! Generally, liquor store staff is aware of how daunting buying wine can be, and they’re more than happy to help. Let them know your budget and what taste profiles you are looking for, and more importantly use words like fruity, full, dry, smooth, and light to help aid in the decision. Also, make sure to ask them why they are suggesting the wine they do choose!

Use the power of the internet

Once you’ve got a list narrowed down to a few favourites, don’t hesitate to look up the wine on Google – you won’t offend anyone if you whip out your phone and dive into some research! This will help you get a great sense what you are about to purchase and how other consumers describe the wine.

Attend a wine tasting event

Like the Victoria International Wine Festival! It’s a great example of an event in which you get to walk through a huge selection of wine – all in one place. This will allow you to interact directly with wine experts that want to walk you through their portfolio, and you can simply mark off the wines you love in the Festival brochure, and there you’ll have a list of must-haves!

Two missing Saanich Peninsula residents found dead from apparent motor vehicle crash

(James Evans (left) and Easha Rayel (right) / Sidney/North Saanich RCMP)

The search for two Saanich Peninsula residents has resulted in a tragic discovery.

36-year-old Easha Rayel and 23-year-old James Evans were last seen August 9th.

The vehicle the pair were travelling in together, a blue 2002 BMW 325i, was believed to have been spotted in Vernon last week – that turned out to be a false sighting, according to family member.

In a release, Sidney / North Saanich RCMP said that vehicle was located today (August 24th), with two deceased people inside the car from an apparent motor vehicle incident. They did not say where the vehicle was located, however, it is believed to have been found crashed over an embankment along the Pat Bay Highway near Parkland Elementary school.

The northbound lanes of the Pat Bay Highway were closed Saturday night as crews investigated. Motorists passing the scene said a coroner vehicle was on scene with a tent propped up.

While positive identification of the individuals has not yet been fully completed, family has been updated.

Police said there is no evidence of criminal behavior in this incident and they will not be making further comment.

Victoria’s first authentic South Indian restaurant is now open on Yates Street

(Dosa Paragon)

Tucked away inside the St. Andrew’s Square building on Yates Street lies one of Victoria’s newest and most unique eateries.

On July 8th, Prashant “Bob” Unnikrishnan and his wife Lathika quietly opened the doors to Dosa Paragon, a south Indian restaurant that is one of its kind in Victoria, and perhaps all of Vancouver Island.

Unlike other East Indian eateries in town, this restaurant specializes in cuisine local to the south Indian state of Kerala and everything on the menu is made from scratch by the husband-and-wife duo.

Bob, who has lived in Victoria for the past 6 years, brings his dishes straight from India after having worked in major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore.

Before opening Dosa Paragon, he worked as a chef at several restaurants around town including Irish Times Pub, John’s Place, and Varsha Indian Kitchen.

Straight outta Kerala

“It’s my passion, and I just learned all the basic skills from my mom,” he tells Victoria Buzz. “It’s always [been] my dream to start my own restaurant.”

Around 80% of the menu is vegan and/or gluten free, with special non-vegetarian dishes served on weekends.

Some of their highlights include the Masala Dosa (a rice crepe stuffed with spiced potato), their Onion and Cilantro Uthappam (a savoury pancake topped with onion and cilantro), and for meat eaters, an aromatic and flavourful Chicken Biryani (a spiced rice and chicken dish).

Of course, no Indian meal is complete without a drink to go with it.

Those who prefer a cooler beverage may choose the thick, sweet concoction that is their mango smoothie. For those partial to hot drinks, the restaurant offers an authentic ‘masala chai’ or tea flavoured with a mix of spices and herbs.

While Bob and his wife have done practically nothing to advertise their new restaurant, the small eatery always has a steady stream of customers to keep them busy – a testament to the nearly addictive flavours and aromas emanating from Dosa Paragon.

They have been so busy, in fact, that the owners have had to extend their business hours up to 9 p.m. to keep up with the demand.

“That’s our motivation,” said Bob when asked about how customers have been responding to his restaurant. “We just want to maintain that momentum as our main goal is customer satisfaction.”

Dosa Paragon operates as a dine-in and take-out eatery, and is also available on Skip the Dishes.

    Friday – Sunday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

The first vehicle hit can be seen flipping and landing upside down a distance away – the cyclist managed to stop amidst the chaos and is seen falling backwards before he gets up and runs from the debris.

Another cyclist can also be seen crossing the intersection just before the collision.

The suspect driver managed to exit the truck and can be see fleeing on foot. Officers were able to arrest him nearby.

The three other drivers were all transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is in the early stages and police are looking for any witnesses to the collision or people who have video of the incident who have not yet spoken with investigators.
